SCARCE U.S. 19TH C. MARKMANSHIP BRONZE MEDALLION.
Comprising a very scarce circa 1882-1888 "SECOND CLASS PRIZE ARMY DIVISION MARKSMANSHIP" AWARD. Depicting a finely relief sculpted standing soldier, verso with wreath and marked U.S. MINT. Crisp strike in excellent condition with good rich even overall patina. It is believed that approximately 33 bronze non-awarded specimens of this medal, of which this is one, were struck at the U.S. Mint as samples; the actual presentation medals were minted in gold. Diameter 44mm.
