The Matador Ranch in Childress, Texas, was a significant part of the larger Matador Ranch, a historic and iconic working cattle ranch in the Texas Panhandle. It was known for its impressive size, diverse operations, and its role in the history of Texas ranching. The Matador Ranch, established in 1879, eventually spanned over 861,000 acres in Texas, encompassing multiple divisions. The Childress area, specifically the Russellville Division, was a part of this larger ranch. The Matador Ranch was renowned for its quality cattle operations, but also for its abundant wildlife, including whitetail deer, quail, and wild hogs. The Matador Ranch has a rich history, including its ownership by a Scottish syndicate and its evolution over time. It's considered one of the most historic ranches in Texas, alongside places like the King Ranch and the 6666's Ranch. In 1906 there is a Jim Foster listed on the Ranche's payroll.
